I was 16 years old when I bravely stepped foot into Way Cool Tattoos, Oakville to get my first ink. It was a simple, cliche albeit timeless piece, etched onto my left shoulder. I’ll never forget the experience:
The musky smell of the ink as the artist prepares the canvas.
The rhythmic buzz of the needle as it penetrates the skin.
The sweat and beating of the heart that follows as the adrenaline kicks in.
People often argue that tattoos are addictive and I don’t blame them. At 23, I now exhibit four individual pieces – the most recent being the famous compass rose from my header – and I wouldn’t object to more in the future. I’ve thought about getting a hot air balloon somewhere… or maybe a watercolour Jupiter (my favourite planet) on my wrist. What do you think?
However, I am a very cautious being and never rush into making a decision. This means I do a lot of research and by doing so, I’ve seen some fantastic tattoos – my favourite being those that are minimalist, delicate and elegant.
Here are a few of my favourite travel/geography related tattoos, for your personal entertainment and inspiration:
I was unfortunately unable to find the owner of many of these beautiful tattoos, but have added links where ever possible.
I do not take credit for any of the photographs.
