Beauty in the Backyard

There always seems to be this unfounded notion that local is boring, regardless of where your local might be. However, I agree to differ. For example, in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) many people assume that the sprawling outer suburbs encompass all – this is not necessarily the case. Each city can and should be appreciated for its own character but if it’s a natural escape your after, there are plenty of options available.

That’s what I’ve been doing every Sunday – spending some quality time with M among the trees; and I can assure you that there is no better way to spend an afternoon.

…but don’t just take it from me. Here’s what the Royal Botanical Gardens have to say about the matter:RoyalBot

This time of year is especially magical, since the foliage is unrecognizable from one week to the next with the progression from green to gold (and red and yellow and orange). Conservation Halton (home to Kelso Beach, Crawford Lake, Rattlesnake Point and Hilton Falls but to name a few) is hosting Fall Into Nature, an autumn appreciation festival on the weekends of October 12-14 and 19-20. You can bet that you’ll find me there, walking stick in hand and geocaching device at the ready.

…and you never know, you might been fortunate enough to meet some friends along the way:

This grand spectacle is best experienced in full, so submerge yourself in your local outdoors, enjoy some fresh air and get reconnected with nature; before the trees stand naked and Old Man Winter emerges from his slumber – but that, my friends, is another adventure entirely.
