Didn’t think I had abandoned you now, did you?
A combination of misfortunes, carelessness and excessive activity has kept me otherwise absent from my beloved The Wandering Rose but with a new year comes renewed vigor.
So here I am again, ready to comply with the tradition establish by 2012: The Good, The Bad and the Future and comment on the annum past and hopes for days to come…but first, I’ll let Google give you a visual of 2013’s most memorable events.
Now enough about the world, let’s talk about me (please forgive this rare self indulgence)!
1. Changing my major – Last year, I briefly mentioned an idea in which I would compliment my current degree in geography with additional knowledge into environmental studies. I fulfilled this desire early on in the spring and have been enjoying the benefits of double honours ever since. Let’s hope this means there will be twice as many job opportunities awaiting me after graduation.
2.Trinidad and Tobago – As our adventure plan to Peru fell unexpectedly flat, M and I had saved enough time and money to travel elsewhere. This elsewhere turned out to be the southern most Caribbean islands of ‘Trinidad and Tobago, an otherwise unlikely tourist destination. Memories were made, pictures were taken and knowledge was gained – what more could you want from a vacation?
3. East Coast Roadtrip – The long awaited journey to the Maritimes not only ticked a large number of previously unexplored provinces and states off the bucket list (namely New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire) but also created a deep emotional attachment.; there’s something about the eastern lifestyle that appeals to me. It’s safe to say that I truly hope to visit again someday and maybe then it’ll be something a little more permanent.
No particular event in memory sticks out as being noticeably ‘bad’ but that’s not to say that 2013 has been peachy keen. Regardless, for this I am thankful.
1.Montreal Grand Prix – In a rather spontaneous motion, M and I purchased tickets to the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal – this is not surprising however, since M is a car fanatic (quite the opposite of myself, really). Planned over a year to the date of departure, there has been plenty of time for anticipation. Now I just have to start following teams and understanding the difference between car models…
2.Florida/O’s visit – For the second time, best friend O is visiting from England -and this year, she’s bringing along a new face! Welcome, boyfriend H! After a few days playing tourist in my (now) local environment, we’ll be taking a plane down to Florida where our roles will be reverse (O’s quite the Florida veteran, you see). Inspired by the construction of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you can guarantee that the trip will include plenty of theme parks.
3. Another trip? – Nothing is officially planned yet, but I speculate another adventure later in the year – but to where? Your guess is as good as mine.
2014, as of now you appear as a shadow in the mist. I can’t wait to see what form you will take.
Until then, stay frosty.
